ISO 9001:2000 Certified
In order to effectively satisfy customer, supplier, and Astromecs needs, Astromec operates under a Quality System that is ISO 9001:2000 Certified The following is a synopsis of that system which is fully documented in the Astromec Quality Manual. The first element of the Quality System is assigning responsibility for it's operation, administration, and maintenance. This responsibility is vested in the Quality Director who reports directly to the President and CEO. This does not imply that the Quality Department is solely responsible for the quality of our products. All Astromec associates are responsible for the quality of their individual endeavors. In addition, the Quality system is semi-annually reviewed by Astromecs management team to evaluate its effectiveness. Changes and improvements are instituted when needed. The second part of the Quality system is to ensure that each associate is trained and possesses the skills needed to perform their assigned tasks to the highest levels of quality and efficiency. Astromec believes that only through continuing education and training can we achieve the performance essential for providing the highest quality products, full customer satisfaction, and the long term success of the company. Astromecs Quality System addresses our products at their inception. Early involvement between Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Materials Management, and Marketing is the cornerstone of our superior designs. Extensive design reviews, validation, and documentation are the ways in which quality planning is accomplished. Early customer involvement is vital to help ensure that expectations are met. A clear understanding of customer needs by all departments and operations is necessary for fully beneficial relationships with our customers and suppliers. Accordingly, all customer contracts are reviewed by department heads to identify the customer requirements. Any discrepancies between customer expectations and Astromecs understanding can then be reconciled. Just as it is important to satisfy customer requirements, it is equally important to communicate Astromecs requirements to our suppliers. Purchase orders are furnished to our suppliers with appropriate drawings, specifications, instructions, part numbers and grades to guarantee that our requirements are clearly stated. Only suppliers approved by Materials Management and the Quality Department are utilized. All purchase orders are reviewed prior to being placed and the preferences of Manufacturing and Engineering are honored wherever possible. Inspection and testing of incoming, in-process, and final product is carried out in a systematic, documented manner by means of inspection and testing instructions. The accuracy of our testing and inspection is accomplished by periodic calibration of our electrical and mechanical equipment. Testing parameters are well defined and reflect customer requirements. Discrepant materials are documented and segregated from good product. Astromec evaluates discrepant material through the Material Review Board, which also initiates and evaluates corrective actions. Astromec encourages input from all associates concerning potential problems associated with our product. It is Astromecs goal to identify potential problems before they hinder quality or production. Detailed records are kept of the manufacture, inspection, and testing of our motors. Astromecs quality system requires that all lots of material carry unique identification. Materials are received into the stockroom by quality acceptance tag numbers. Kits are issued using these tag numbers which enables excellent tractability and cost accounting of materials that are used in any particular order. Astromec manufactures motors using detailed work, test and inspection instructions. All processes are well defined to ensure consistent methods by all associates throughout the manufacturing of our product. In addition, filtering is used where possible to obtain consistent results. Process analysis is applied where needed to aid in the identification of manufacturing problems. Design changes in Astromec motors are communicated to Manufacturing and Quality through the Engineering document control function. This system of control keeps documentation current and affected people informed of changes. The Quality System requires semi-annual audits to be performed by the internal audit team, headed by the Quality Director. Astromec requires that positive corrective action be implemented to ensure the continuing vitality of the Quality system. Astromecs Quality System is designed to identify problems in the early stages of conception, design, and throughout manufacture. It is the intent of the system to solve problems once, document the corrective or preventative action so that we do not have to revisit them.
